Mixing careful paintbrush strokes with violent careless splatters, creating perfection, destroying it, and then putting it back together. Through a careful blending of the opposing, Kara purposefully melts the contracting with the expanding, concealing with revealing, enthusiastically scattering sparkles into the dull and mundane.
Statement
By combining multiple art forms, using a multitude of diverse art materials, and experimenting with new and inventive techniques, Kara creates original and unique luxury abstract canvas artwork pieces. Each piece is finished with a glass-like resin topcoat to seal in the brilliant pulsing and vibrant colors thriving within. Kara's artwork may include (but is not limited to): Highly Concentrated Inks, Glitter, Watercolors, Alcohol-Based Inks, Glass, Crushed Glass, Crystals, Gems, Gold, Silver, Acrylic, Natural Pigments, Oil Pastels, Charcoal, and Resin.

Kara aims to create an inherent awkwardness, a humor that echoes all of our vulnerabilities. By applying abstraction, manifesting thoughts, repeating mistakes, emphasizing aesthetics, and layering chaos between gold and glitter, a sort of wicked goodness emerges. It becomes blatantly apparent that she loves making rules almost as much as she loves breaking them. Since her work doesn’t reference a specific recognizable form, interpretation of her work can be multifaceted to some. Her thoughts, although fiercely private and highly subjective, can be seen processing behind the seemingly random and completely unfiltered layers of her work. Her works feature coincidental, accidental, and unexpected connections through the use of unconventional and experimental applications of various mediums. The resulting outcomes are blissfully surprising to the viewer and always to herself. Kara Schmitz currently lives and works in Gilbert, Arizona.
